Ian Takes on 100-Mile Ultra Challenge for Joseph’s Goal

Joseph’s Goal supporter Ian Cusick took fundraising to another level in July when he set out to tackle a gruelling 100-mile ultramarathon from Bamburgh Castle to Edinburgh Castle.

Starting at 7am on Saturday 4 July, the challenge followed the north-east coastline before heading inland towards Edinburgh, taking in trails, beaches, sand dunes, coastal paths and roads, with more than 2,000 metres of elevation along the way.

Ian had set himself the enormous challenge of covering the route in under 32 hours, running and walking continuously through the day and overnight to raise money for Joseph’s Goal.

And his supporters certainly got behind him.

Ian’s JustGiving page raised £1,155.65, with a further £245 in Gift Aid, bringing the total value of the fundraising to £1,400.65

Almost 25 hours on the course

Taking on 100 miles is an extraordinary challenge, and Ian spent almost 25 hours on the course before his challenge came to an end.

That meant almost an entire day of running and walking through changing terrain, through the night and into the following morning, all with Joseph and the fight against Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia (NKH) in mind.

Before setting off, Ian explained that knowing people were supporting the fundraiser would help spur him on when things inevitably became tough.

They did.

Every donation, message and share helped turn an extraordinary personal challenge into valuable support for Joseph’s Goal and the NKH research we help fund.

Taking on a challenge for Joe

Over the years, Joseph’s Goal supporters have run marathons, climbed mountains, cycled huge distances, played football matches and come up with countless other ways to help.

People like Ian are an incredibly important part of that story.

Founded in 2012, Joseph’s Goal is the leading global fundraiser and the UK’s longest-established charity dedicated to Non-Ketotic Hyperglycinemia, raising vital funds to drive life-changing research into this ultra-rare condition.

Every fundraising challenge adds to that work.

So from everyone at Joseph’s Goal, thank you Ian

Nearly 25 hours on your feet, more than £1,400 raised including Gift Aid, and one seriously ambitious challenge in support of Joe and NKH research.

We think you’ve earned a rest.
